The Short Version

I treat digestive disease, and only digestive disease. For over eighteen years my practice has focused on inflammatory bowel disease, IBS, SIBO, and the functional GI disorders that fall through the cracks of conventional care.

"I devoted my practice to digestive disease because I had to. Crohn's disease made it personal long before it was professional."

The Longer Version

I graduated from the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon — the oldest accredited naturopathic medical school in North America — earning my naturopathic doctorate in 2007 and my master's in Oriental medicine in 2008. My own history with Crohn's disease shaped everything about how I practice: I know what it's like to sit on both sides of the exam table.

I'm a Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Gastroenterology, the advanced board certification in my field, and a Fellow and past board leader of the Gastroenterology Association of Naturopathic Physicians. I founded Open Wellness PDX, a multidisciplinary integrative clinic in Portland, where I see patients in person and by telehealth.

My clinical toolkit is deliberately wide: Western and Chinese herbal medicine, nutritional therapeutics, acupuncture, neural therapy, and injection therapies — combined with a working command of conventional GI pharmacology. I believe the best integrative medicine is fluent in both languages, which is why I teach IBD drug management to practitioners alongside natural therapeutics.

Beyond the clinic, I co-host two podcasts — The Turd Nerds (integrative gastroenterology, with Dr. Rebecca Sand and Dr. Ami Kapadia) and The Point of Medicine (neural therapy and the autonomic nervous system, with Dr. Anne Hill). I've created practitioner courses including Mastering Inflammatory Bowel Disease, lecture at conferences across the country, mentor residents, and advise supplement and laboratory companies in the gut-health space. Portland Monthly nominated me among Portland's "Top Docs" in 2014 and 2016.
